  • Overview

    The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing subject matter expert level support for larger (or multiple) projects for Saulsbury’s Gulf Coast business unit. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will work with a wide degree of latitude of technical authority with full work responsibilities, over a group of Mechanical Engineers and Designers. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will also function as the Lead Mechanical Engineer, responsible for all discipline technical and scheduling matters pertaining to the assigned project. 

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and direct the activities of junior Mechanical Engineers, Designers and Draftsmen to ensure accuracy and completeness of documents and drawings produced.
    • Prepares and reviews discipline project specifications set by the client.
    • Produce detailed designs deliverables ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of procedures and practical application of skills.
    • Lead, supervise and guide discipline-specific teams in the preparation and coordination of design basic or detail drawings ensuring deadlines are met and work is completed to the required quality standards.
    • Deliverables accurately presented within timeframe and budget.
    • Provide expertise for materials selection to projects in the form of consultation and guidance; addressing material reliability and quality assurance.
    • Review and resolve interdisciplinary design and technical issues to ensure the most effective and efficient design is adopted.

    Qualifications

    • Fifteen plus years of applicable experience in Petrochemical, Refinery or EPC industries.
    • Strong knowledge in industry codes and standards; ASME, API, ANSI, PIP, etc.
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
    • Texas PE licensure required.
    • Knowledge of metallurgy and material selection.
    • Possess a high level of analytical ability to resolve complex challenges.
    • Proven record of accomplishment of success in developing and executing projects, including objectives, scope, schedule and deliverables.
    • Possesses strong soft skills in coaching and mentoring others as well as communication.
